Whether people search for it as SEO for tradesmen or SEO for tradespeople, the problem underneath is the same in every trade we have looked at: one page called Services, one town, and a website that ranks for the company name and nothing a customer would ever type.
We have looked at this across enough trades to see the shape repeat. The wording changes — a plasterer's searches are not a landscaper's — but the four groups do not, and neither does the mistake. One Services page listing everything is asked to rank for all of it and ranks for none of it.
The useful exercise is to write down the four things you most want more of, then check whether each one has a page with that exact phrase as its heading. Most trade websites fail that test on all four.
How the demand splitsAny trade
01
The job, named
“kitchen fitting [town]”, “garden decking [town]”, “skimming a ceiling cost”
The single highest-return page you can build, and the one almost nobody has. The heading has to match the phrase, which sounds obvious and is the thing most trade sites get wrong.
02
The cost question
“how much to plaster a room”, “fence installation cost uk”, “tiling price per square metre”
Read weeks before anyone rings. Trades dismiss it as tyre-kickers; it is where the shortlist is formed. Answer it with real ranges and you are remembered when the enquiry happens.
03
Near me
“carpenter near me”, “decorator [town]”, “landscaper in [town]”
Won in the map pack, on the Google Business Profile, reviews and proximity. The website supports it without winning it, which is why the profile comes first in the work below.
Low volume, large contracts, weak competition. Consistently the most under-built page across every trade, because keyword tools make it look not worth doing.
How it works
What the monthly work actually is
Identical in every trade, and worth doing in this order regardless of which one you are in.
01
Find out what you already rank for
Search Console and the live results for your towns and your job types. It is common to find one page already close to the first page for something valuable, which is a fortnight of work, not a project.
02
Fix the Google Business Profile
Categories, services, service area, photographs of your own finished work, posts and questions. Free, fast, and for the near-me searches it matters more than the website does.
03
Build a page per job type
One page for each thing you want more of, with the heading matching the phrase people type, a real price range, and photographs of that specific work.
04
Answer the cost question honestly
A page that explains what the job costs and what moves the number. It is read months before the enquiry and it is the reason you get asked to quote instead of someone cheaper.
05
Then a page per town, in order of value
Genuinely different pages for the areas you actually work in, a few at a time. Twenty thin pages with the town name swapped is a well-known way to get a site treated as low quality.
£495 a month, whichever trade you are in.
Local is £495 a month: one area, the searches around it, the Business Profile and the site work. Growth is £995 a month where you want more job types, more towns or the harder terms. If you already have a website worth keeping there is no build to fund, so Growth is £895 a month on a six-month minimum term instead of 12. Prices are the full amount payable; no VAT is added on top.
Work out what one extra job a month is worth to you and compare it against £495, because that is the real test. For a decorator that is a close call worth thinking about; for a landscaper doing full garden builds it is not close at all. Do that sum before the call and it will be a much shorter conversation. Full pricing.

Our guide to SEO for tradespeople in the UK covers the same ground in full, whichever trade you are in, so you can see the method before you commit to anything.
Almost certainly. The four search groups above hold across every trade we have looked at — the wording changes and the values change, but the structure does not. If your trade genuinely does not fit the pattern we will tell you on the first call, not after you have paid for three months.
